Abrams Media and it’s founder, Dan Abrams, have launched their newest venture, Whiskey Raiders. An online site for aggregated whiskey reviews, Whiskey Raiders promises to be a resource for both seasoned and novice whiskey drinkers alike.

The site uses a proprietary algorithm to assign an average score to each individual whiskey. “No longer will interested consumers need to stand in the liquor store and visit several websites to get an impression on a product they’re curious about,” Jay West, the site’s managing editor, told Mediaite.

A veteran spirit critic, West previously ran the spirit review site t8ke.review. Abrams Media acquired t8ke.review as part of the launch, and will merge its content, including West’s personal reviews, to the new Whiskey Raiders site

In an exclusive scoop on the site’s launch, Variety noted that in addition to providing a standardized score for each product, Abrams and West envision “a regular feature that helps readers figure out which product will deliver the most satisfaction at a particular price point.” The site also plans to announce a shopping partner in the coming weeks, allowing readers to purchase their desired spirit directly through the site.

Abrams came up with the idea for Whiskey Raiders while working on the now-cancelled A&E program, Live P.D. After wrapping a shoot, Abrams and his co-hosts would share a celebratory drink, exposing him to the exciting, but complex world of whiskey more than he had ever been before. “I found myself having to dig into each of the very good in-depth reviews, and having to go site to site to figure out the general sense of a bourbon,” Abrams told Variety. West echoed this sentiment, telling MediaiteEvery whiskey site is doing their own thing. It’s a wonderful thing, but adds complexity to the universe for newcomers to whiskey, or individuals trying to research a new bottle.”

By aggregating reviews from top-rated sites and assigning an average score on a scale of 50-100, Whiskey Raiders hopes to simplify drinkers’ search for a good spirit. At the same time, the site recognizes the importance of in-depth reviews and individual voices in the whiskey community, giving readers the option to click through to each full review on the originally sourced webpages. “The in-depth reviews are really important,” Abrams told Variety, “and we are going to be promoting these other sites on our site, urging people to go read the reviews.”

The Whiskey Raiders site is now live, with hundreds of whiskeys already aggregated and more being added each day.

Variety published an article covering the launch of Law & Crime Daily, a syndicated show from Dan Abrams' Law&Crime Network

Variety’s article covering the launch of Law&Crime Daily, a new show from Dan Abrams’ Law&Crime Network

The Law&Crime Network, the nation’s only live trial network, announced the launch of their first syndicated show, Law&Crime Daily, in partnership with Litton Entertainment. The program aired its flagship episode on Monday, September 14th and featured discussion of the day’s biggest legal and true crime headlines.

Abrams believes his newest venture will help fill a hole in legal programming, having noted that over the past fifteen years the coverage of major court trials on cable news networks has diminished. “This is really kind of an opportunity,” Abrams told Variety who covered the announcement, “the interest in legal stories hasn’t faded.”

“Law&Crime Daily” is hosted by attorney and broadcast journalist Aaron Keller who will also work as executive producer for the program. Keller has an extensive legal and broadcast background including a feature in Netflix’s documentary, “Making a Murderer,” for his coverage of the Steven Avery case. Keller will be joined by co-hosts Terri Austin, a former trial attorney and Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California, and Brian Buckmire, a felony trial attorney and a homicide defense attorney in a NYC Public Defender’s office.

“The incredible depth of knowledge and insight from Aaron Keller, Terri Austin, and Brian Buckmire allow ‘Law&Crime Daily’ to provide audiences with an inside view into the day’s most fascinating court cases,” stated Dave Morgan, president and CEO of Litton Entertainment. “We are excited to partner with Dan Abrams and his stellar production team to continue to expand Litton’s programming slate that entertains and informs viewers.”

Variety Interviews Dan Abrams on Live PD, ABC News, Abrams Media

Variety reporter Brian Steinberg recently spoke with Dan and sat in with him on his daily SiriusXM radio show. The article, titled “‘Live P.D.’ Host Dan Abrams Brings New Order to Law-Focused Media,” takes a deep dive into Dan’s current and former endeavors and how he balances so many unique responsibilities.

“It is, to some degree, different lives,” notes Abrams, sitting behind an adjustable desk in his company’s Manhattan offices. “I have the life of running a growing company, and everything has to be done economically, and I have to be monitoring how may coffee refills we get. And yet I live a very different life as an on-air guy, where the coffee is plentiful.”

Being the Chief Legal Correspondent for ABC News, and being the CEO of his own companies pose very different challenges. Steinberg reached out to Dan’s ABC News colleague to understand just how he does it.

“Figuring out how to connect the dots of his various enterprises might be difficult, but George Stephanopoulos, the ABC News anchor, can do it: Abrams is working on a way to keep up with the nation’s increasing fascination with the overlap of law, media and politics. “He can play in all of these different arenas,” says Stephanopoulos, in a brief phone interview.”

Dan’s work as host of Live PD, the number one show on cable, contrasts his smaller four media companies. But the mid-size media outlets are quickly growing. Two of the four, the Law & Crime Network and Mediaite.com, recently helped create a business deal between multiple news outlets.

Dan described to Steinberg the goal of the new deal:

“In a world of internet behemoths, it can be tough to compete for ad dollars as a mid-sized web property. So with the 2020 election around the corner, we thought the best way for us to get some of the political advertising that will be flooding the internet was to join with other similarly sized sites and offer larger packages together,” says Abrams, adding: “Since the announcement we have had a number of other sites inquire about joining the coalition as well.”

The two companies fit perfectly into the alliance.

From TV green rooms to the corridors of the senate to the latest White House press briefing, Mediaite is a trusted source on the intersection of politics and media across the political spectrum. Breaking news, analysis and opinions aplenty, Mediaite delivers it all with lightning quick speed.

Law & Crime is both a 24/7 live trial network, as well as a website that hosts multiple live trial streams and expert legal articles. LawandCrime.com is the only site for live court video, high-profile criminal trials, crazy crime, celebrity justice, and smart legal analysis. Law & Crime brings common sense written and video analysis to the often confusing and always intriguing world of the law. The site’s team of journalists and lawyers provide real-time news updates along with live courtroom coverage of the most fascinating trials and legal stories.

Variety’s piece was published in the wake of wide media attention around Dan’s new book, Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense: The Courtroom Battle to Save His Legacy
