Media entrepreneur and ABC’s chief legal analyst, Dan Abrams, has revealed the new name and logo of his recently purchased vineyard. Currently known as Laurel Lake Vineyards, Long Island’s Newsday reports that Abrams plans to rebrand the North Fork winery under a new name, Ev&Em.

Hoping to turn the vineyard into a family business, the new name stems from a combination of the names of Abrams’ two children, Everett, 8, and Emilia, born just over a month ago on Feb 18th. “I have long dreamed of having a Long Island vineyard that could showcase the best of this region and become a long-term family business,” Abrams wrote in a statement to Newsday. “By calling it Ev&Em I hope that maybe when my kids are grown they’ll be a little more incentivized to take care of, and pride in, the wines that bear their names.”

Long Island’s Patch and Behind the Hedges have also reported on the vineyard’s rebrand. The logo, which Behind the Hedges reports as being designed by Andrew Egan of Cool Gray Seven, consists of a clean, bold black font with a hand drawn ampersand.

While customers will have to wait a few more months to see the new branding reflected on the vineyard grounds, the winery and tasting room currently remain open for business. Abrams hopes to have the rebrand complete by end of summer or early fall, and plans to hold a grand reopening when the time comes. While Abrams expects to have a few new wines under the Ev&Em label at the time of reopening, Newsday reports that “a newer selection of best wines will come out next year and beyond.” This reflects the time it takes to properly grow, harvest, and make quality wine.

Ev&Em Vineyards is located at 3165 Main Road, Laurel, NY 11948.

Long Island and Wine Media Respond to Dan Abrams’ Purchase of North Fork’s Laurel Lake Vineyards

In the wake of the announcement that author and media entrepreneur, Dan Abrams, has purchased a Long Island winery, a number of local media outlets and wine publications have responded. Originally announced by The Hollywood Reporter in January, Long Island’s Newsday, Patch, Behind the Hedges, and Northforker are just a few of the local publications reporting on the news, as well as wine outlets such as Wine Spectator.

Abrams purchased Laurel Lake Vineyards, a 40-acre farm located on Long Island’s North Fork earlier this year. “Expanding into the wine business has long been a passion of mine,” Abrams told Patch in a statement, “and this winery presented a perfect opportunity to create an experience that both local residents and seasonal guests will enjoy.”

According to Behind the Hedges, Laurel Lake currently sits in a “colonial-style building,” and has “a tasting room with an antique landmark bar, stained windows and a gift shop.” The winery has a two-story deck that looks out onto the vineyard’s land, providing what Behind the Hedges calls a “favorite place for guests to enjoy a glass of wine and some music.”

While Abrams plans to completely rehaul the vineyard, starting with a relaunch under a new name this summer, there are some things he plans to keep the same. Juan Sepulveda, head wine maker and former co-owner of Laurel Lake, confirmed to Newsday that Abrams has asked him to stay on, “I’ll be very happy to continue with the wine here and take it to the next level.”

“Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay” are some of Laurel Lake’s current plantings according to Wine Spectator’s Unfiltered, but “Abrams anticipates investing in some new vines.”  “Dan is coming here with great ideas,” said Sepulveda, and he’s not the only one looking forward to working with Abrams. Signed on to the project as managing partner is Vanessa Price, best selling author of Big Macs & Burgundy: Wine Pairings for the Real World. In a statement to the Northforker, Price said she is thrilled to be joining Dan on this exciting North Fork endeavor,” and is “passionate about bringing these great New York wines to a wider audience.”

Local officials have also expressed excitement about the newest addition to the North Fork family. “We look forward to welcoming Dan Abrams to the Long Island wine industry,” Long Island Wine Country President, Kareem Massoud, told Patch. Massoud believes Abrams’ purchase of Laurel Lake reflects an increasing popularity of Long Island’s wine community and, as he told Northforker, is “a testament to what many of the pioneers have accomplished in the first place.” Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell told Patch he “hadn’t had a chance to meet” Abrams yet, but is “looking forward to it. It sounds like he has exciting new ideas.”

Abrams plans to announce the new name for Laurel Lake in the coming weeks, with a relaunch planned for this summer and many more exciting changes in the years to come.

THR Dan Abrams Plans to Open Winery

Dan Abrams is adding vineyard owner to his long list of jobs. In addition to running his own media company, serving as ABC’s Chief Legal Analyst, and juggling multiple hosting gigs as host of his own SiriusXM radio show and A&E’s Court Cam, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Dan Abrams recently purchased a vineyard out on Long Island.

Laurel Lake Vineyards, a popular winery situated on the North Fork of Long Island, was purchased by Abrams in December 2020. Abrams, who has long been a collector of wines and a noted wine lover, hopes to transform the vineyard into a luxury winery “where Napa meets the Hamptons.” When speaking with THR, Abrams stated that he’s “so excited to invest in the North Fork and this vineyard with the goal of creating a new luxury Long Island wine.”

Abrams, who is expecting a new baby in the coming weeks, has teamed up with sommelier Vanessa Price to completely rebrand and relaunch the existing vineyard. The winery will undergo a complete transformation, including a new name inspired by Abrams’ children. Price, a noted wine columnist at New York Magazine and author of Big Macs & Burgundy: Wine Pairings for the Real World, will help Abrams oversee the vineyard’s day to day business.

“Expanding into the wine business has long been a passion of mine and this winery presented a perfect opportunity to create an experience that both local residents and seasonal guests will enjoy,” Abrams told THR

While the vineyard will be Abrams’ first foray into the wine making world, it won’t be his first venture into the world of alcohol. In December 2020, Abrams’ company, Abrams Media, launched their new site Whiskey Raiders, an online resource for whiskey drinkers. Branded as “the rotten tomatoes of the whiskey world,” Whiskey Raiders uses a proprietary algorithm to aggregate online whiskey reviews and assign one average score from 50-100 for each rated whiskey.

Abrams and Price plan to relaunch Laurel Lake Vineyard under a new brand this summer.
